In this 2005 interview, Ben Stefanski, son of the legendary Polish immigrant founder of Third Federal Savings and Loan Association, discusses his experiences as the Director of Public Utilities for the City of Cleveland form 1968-1971. Stefanski, a lawyer, was brought into the Stokes administration not only for his talent and experience, but also because of his connections to Cleveland's ethnic neighborhoods. As Utilities Director, Stefanski was instrumental in leading the City's efforts to clean up the Cuyahoga County River, especially after the nationally-publicized river fire of 1969. He was also involved in the regionalization of Cleveland's sewer system. This oral history also includes anecdotes about the Stefanski family.
